Current Navigation Rules for the Mölln Lakes

For day visitors with watercraft of any kind staying for a maximum of 28 days, direct access to the two marinas is permitted without a special permit.

For any additional activities on Lake Ziegelsee or Lake Stadtsee (both classified as second-order state waters), a permit from the City of Mölln and the District of Herzogtum Lauenburg is generally required.

The responsible authorities for issuing these permits are:

  • City of Mölln – Property Department
  • District of Herzogtum Lauenburg – Water Management Department (Ratzeburg)

Both applications can be submitted to the City of Mölln, which will forward them for further processing. An exception applies to day visitors passing directly across Lake Ziegelsee from the Elbe–Lübeck Canal to the motorboat club docks, which is allowed without a permit. Please note the maximum speed limit of 6 km/h on both Lake Ziegelsee and Lake Stadtsee.

Ziegelsee:

For day visitors with watercraft of any kind staying up to 28 days, direct access to the two marinas is allowed without a permit. However, all other activities, such as cruising around the lake, whether with your own motorboat or a dinghy with a combustion engine, require a permit from the first day of mooring, in accordance with the regulations issued by the district and the city of Mölln. The assigned registration number (MÖ xxx) must be clearly visible either once on the stern, or on both sides of the boat or dinghy, using Arabic numerals and Latin letters at least 8 cm high.

Stadtsee:
The same permit requirements described above for Lake Ziegelsee apply to motorboats and dinghies on Lake Stadtsee. Since 01 January 2023, navigation on Lake Stadtsee with motorboats or dinghies is permitted only with electric propulsion. Applications must be submitted to the District of Herzogtum Lauenburg and the City of Mölln.
